Answer #1

CaCO3(s) \rightarrow CaO(s) + CO2

CaO(s) + SO2\rightarrow CaSO3

S + O2\rightarrow SO2

Mass of Sulfur = (0.33/100)×9.0×104kg = 2.97×102 kg = 2.97×105g

The number of moles of SO2 formed = number of moles of Sulfur = 2.97×105g/32g/mol = 9.28125×103mol

The number if moles of CaO required = the number of moles of SO2 formed = 9.28125×103 mol

= 9.28125×103mol × 56g/mol

= 5.1975×105 g

= 519.75 kg

The mass of lime (CaO) required = (519.75kg/70.0)×100

= 742.5 kg. (Answer)
