Answer) The pool of informal caregivers is shrinking because of the change in the demographics. This can be due to the exit of the younger generation from their role at very early stage in life because they cannot assume their responsibility as the caregivers. In addition, the informal caregivers generally receives no proper training for handling the disease requiring long term care which can lead to variety of unwanted circumstances. Also, the demands long hours of work and no wages are the reason why the people are unwilling of providing the long term care.
This decrease in the pool of Informal care means the decrease in quality and longevity of life of the people in the need of the long term care. This situation can be improved by spreading awareness about the issue of informal caregiver and its importance. Educational programs must be devised for those who wants to become the informal caregiver so that they can handle the situation efficiently and for longer period of time.
