Hey, don;t worry i'll provide a legit answer as always. Please don't forget to hit the like if you find this useful.

So diving into the topic of labor unions history, we have so much to discuss, i'll make it as brief as i could for your better understanding.

Labor unions were very useful and very helpful to both the companies / organizations and the employees as whole too in the past. In the American history labor unions did many great things, they fought for many perks and benefits which legally should be entitled to the workers. Labor Acts were formed with the strikes and protests of these labor unions which were done peacefully in the past. They fought to equal wages, safe working places and reasonable or appropriate working hours and etc. But i personally don't see the labor unions of this generation as such, may be it's because of some companies who try to restrict employees by paying them low and many other reasons. And it also differs from company to company and business to business.

Continuous improvement relates to the concept of Lean Six Sigma, which tries for continuous improvement in the process of the organization. Moreover these concepts were used in every sector which you mentioned as healthcare, banking, retails and/or government for reducing wastage, improving their quality of processes and also for achieving their goals.
In healthcare, it relates to the patient's service and identification of the defects that has to be minimized and for banking it relates to the improvement of the existing process without any defects and for retail or government it relates to the functioning of the departments without any hindrances.

The merger of Lean and Six sigma is called Lean Six Sigma which has been discussed above, so that's it and please leave a like if find this answer as legit. Thank you.
