Answer #1

The stress component acting along inclined plane AB are :

Normal stresses are : (-3+2)/2±sqrt(((-3-2)/2)²+4²)cos(30)

= -4.58 ksi,3.58 ksi

Shear stress: sqrt(((-3-2)²+4²) sin(30) = 2.36 ksi

Principal stress : (-3+2)/2±sqrt(((-3-2)/2)²+4²)

= -5.21 ksi, 4.21 ksi

Maximum in plane shear stress : ( 4.21+5.21)/2

= 4.71 ksi clockwise
