An experiment is run where a silvery substance exhibiting metallic properties was heated at 500 degrees Celsius. After heating for five minutes a new powdery substance with nonmetallic properties was formed. The new non-metallic substance is known as Tron. The mass of the new non-metallic substance Tron is less than the original original metallic substance. Explain why you think Tron is an element.
Metallic properties are often exhibited by compounds that are formed by a metal and non-metal. In this case, the reduction in mass seems to suggest that the compound has decomposde and the metal that was combined with TRON has been evaporated. This is further established by the change in properties to non-metallic as TRON reverts to it's non-metallic elemental form.

An experiment is run where a silvery substance exhibiting metallic properites was heated at 500°C. After heating for 5 minutes a new powdery substance with non-metallic properties was formed. The new non-metallic substance is known as Tron. The mass of the new non-metallic substance, Tron, is less than the original metallic substance. Based on this experimental information answer the following questions. a. Which substance was more likely an element?b. Explain why you think that substance is an element.
