Menopause is a term used for the indication of the absence of the periods (menstruation) for 12 or more months. This occurs due to the ceasing of the functions of the ovary. It is a natural process, which occurs after a certain age in women. Due to the ceasing of the ovary functions, the women after menopause experience many changes and are no longer fertile.

Physical Effects:

The menopause occurs due to the ceasing of the ovary function and causes the changes in the hormones. The physical effects that can be seen after menopause are:

1.     Vaginal dryness.

2.     Pain in the genitals.

3.     Itching and discomfort during or after sex.

4.     Palpitation (in some cases)

5.     Anxiety.

6.     Gaining weight and a decrease in metabolism.

7.     Changes in breasts.

8.     Sleeping problems (irregular sleeping or insomnia)

Psychological Effects:

Due to rapid hormone fluctuations after the menopause, some psychological differences can be seen, these are:

1.     Mood swings.

2.     Irritation

3.     Feeling of sadness

4.     Depression

5.     Difficulties with concentration and memory.

Social Effects:

After menopause, the woman is no longer fertile. Also, the changes in the hormones lead to many physical and psychological changes, which can change the life of the woman as a whole. The menopause causes the change in the sexual desires, which can affect the life of the couple.

Sometimes, the changes in the body, behavior, and psychology may not be acceptable and lead to many negative impacts. The major behavioral changes can cause the change in the perception of a woman towards society, community, and family.

At the time of menopause, the woman undergoes many changes, at this time they need support, but they do not get much attention, as the society think the women are mature and they can handle all the changes, but not getting support may affect the lives of many women.
