Answer #1

Answer 3.

Erythromycin.

It is the medicine which is used to treat bacterial infection such as urethritis.

Order = Erythromycin.

Desired Dose= 800 mg

Frequency = q 8 hr.

Available / Dose on hand = 400 mg / 5 ml.

How many ml in 8 hours=?

Solution.

q8 hr means the drug has to be given every 8 hourly.

And the dose of the drug should be 800 mg.

To find the amount of solution needed every 8 hourly.

Formula= what we want/ what we have *quantity.

OR, Desired dose / Dose on hand X Quantity.

So, Desired dose= 800 mg.

Dose on hand is = 400 mg.

Quantity = 5 ml,

After putting the values.

Desired dose /Dose on hand* Quantity.

= 800 mg / 400 mg * 5 ml.

= 10 ml.

Hence, the volune of solution needed every 8 hourly is 10 ml.

10 ml solution of erythromycin is needed to complete the desired dose of 800 mg every 8 hourly.

Abswer 4.

Verapamil.

It is the drug which is used to treat high blood pressure or hypertension.

Order= verapamil.

Desired Dose= 360 mg.

Dose on hand = 180 mg / per tablet.

Freq= Hs.

Solution.

Here the frequency is HS which means Hora somni or the drug which is only to be given during night time or bed time.

Desired dose= 360 mg.

Available dose / Dose on hand = 180 mg in 1 tablet,

So, quantity will be 1 tablet.

Total tablet needed to complete the dose of 360 mg is

Formula:

Desired Dose / Dose on hand X Quantity.

= 360 mg / 180 mg X 1tablet.

= 2 tablets.

Hence, Total 2 tablets are needed to complete the dose of 360 mg which is to be given during bed time.
