7. Ordered Amoxicillin 375 mg po q8h

Po means orally, q8h means every 8 hours

Available suspension= 125 mg/5ml

means 25 mg/ml

How many tsp will you give for each dose?

25 mg contains= 1ml

1mg will contain= 1/25 ml

Hence for ordered Amoxicillin 375 mg required ml= (1/25) X375= 15 ml

1ts contains 4.9862 ml means almost equal to 5ml

Hence in 15 ml there will be = 3 tsps

Hence 3 tsps will be required q8h means every 8 hours

for each dose it will be 1 tsp

8. Ordered Heparin =4000 units SC, tid

Sc means subcutaneously

tid means 3 times a day

Available suspension= 10000 u/ml

How many ml (s) will you give?

= 4000/ 10000= 0.4 ml 3 times a day

9. Ordered Verapamil =60 mg po qid

Po means orally

And qid means 4 times a day

Available tablet Verapamil= 120 mg

Require tablet for each dose = ?

= 60/120= ½ tablet

10.Ordered Coumadin 7.5 mg po qd

Po means orally

And qd means once a day

Available tablet Coumadin = 5 mg

Require tablets per day = ?

= 7.5/5= 1.5 tablets per day
