A) The vertebral bodies are the anterior portion of each vertebra and is the part that supports the body weight. There is a progressive increase in size of the vertebral bodies due to the fact that successive vertebra bear increasing amounts of the body's weight as the vertebral column descends.

B) Ligaments act as a natural brace protecting the spine from injury. Ligaments provide joint stability during the periods of rest and movement as well as help prevent injury as a result of hyperextension and hyperflexion.
