Nurses are responsible to administer the medications to the patient. The six rights of medication administration or the six Rs of medication administration help reduce errors in administration of medicines and prevent negative outcomes.

The six rights of medication administration are as follows :

1. Right patient : check the name of patient before medicine administration
2. Right drug : check that the drug name is same as prescribed by doctor
3. Right dose : the quantity of drug should be given as prescribed
4. Right time : drug should be given at the right time of the day according to the prescription.
5. Right route : the drug should be administered through the correct route as prescribed
6. Right documentation : document the drug given clearly and correctly
