Sites of insulin administration
Insulin is mostly given as subcutaneous injection and rarely in some special cases it is given IM or IV
Most preferred site is abdomen as it allows easy reach and vascularity is high in this area. Site should be rotated daily, abdomen has a vast area for this
Thighs and back side of arm between shoulder and elbow are also used for insulin injection.
Routes of administration of IM injection
Intramuscular injections can be given in dorsogluteal,ventrogluteal,vastus lateralis, deltoid.ventrogluteal is the most preferred site.
Subcutaneous injections are given to subcutaneous tissue in areas such as abdomen, thighs, upper arm.
