Writing a full paragraph (a 150-words minimum) for your initial blog post discussing a specific species of prokaryotic organism and the role it has within society. Be sure to describe what the prokaryotic species is. Where is it found? How does it interact with humans and/or other species (i.e. harmful, beneficial or mutualistic relationship) ? What role does it play in the ecosystem, etc.? Also required within the initial blog post is sharing the website (specific URL) and what you have learned from this resource and/or have found particularly helpful when reviewing the website.

Answer #1

There are two types of organisms on this planet - prokaryotic and eukaryotic. Prokaryotic organisms are primitive type of organisms which lack a well defined nucleus and membrane bound organelles. The nucleus in prokaryotic organisms is called nucleoid in which the double standard, linear, single molecule of DNA is present. Eukaryotic organisms are those which have a well defined nucleus and DNA is double stranded linear molecule condensed into chromosomes. They also have membrane bound organelles like mitochondria, chloroplast, vacuoles, endoplasmic reticulum. The only organelle common between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells is ribosomes. The prokaryotic cell has 70S ribosomes and eukaryotic is having 80S ribosomes.

Prokaryotic cell includes bacteria mainly. The role of bacteria in the environment and human life can be useful or harmful. Bacteria is present everywhere on this planet. They are present inside our body, in a handful of soil in the air, in the water, in our food, everywhere.

In this blog I will discuss about a prokaryotic cell which is a natural inhabitant of our intestine, Escherichia coli. I am discussing this prokaryotic organism because I found to be very unique in its nature. It is having positive as well as a negative role in our life.

Features of this bacterium –

• Rod shaped/bacillus

• Gram Negative

• Peritrichous

• Releases endotoxins

• Facultative anaerobe

• Coliform

Positive uses of this bacterium -

• It is a natural inhabitant of our small intestine and help in digestion of food. Any decline or increase in its number is related to digestive disorders.

• It is an important prokaryotic model organism. It is regularly used in recombinant DNA technology, molecular biology, genetics and other fields of biology.

• It helps in wastewater treatment.

• It can be taken as a medicine or probiotic during digestive disorder.

• It is used to make biological fuels data prepared from plants such as Jatropha, Madhuca sugarcane etc.

• Detect the presence of arsenic contamination in soil and water.

• Good colonizer so can easily invade a barren land and cause succession.

Negative roles of this bacterium –

• Some strains of this bacteria are pathogenic and cause disorders related to gastrointestinal tract.

• Some strains of this bacterium potent allergens.

It must be kept in mind that, every microbe or any other organism on this planet have positive as well as negative uses and can be used in different ways.

Risk management in Information Security today Everyday information security professionals are bombarded with marketing messages around risk and threat management, fostering an environment in which objectives seem clear: manage risk, manage threat, stop attacks, identify attackers. These objectives aren't wrong, but they are fundamentally misleading. In this session we'll examine the state of the information security industry in order to understand how the current climate fails to address the true needs of the business. We'll use those lessons as a foundation...
