Answer #1

Volume of gas is directly proportional to the number of the moles .

Mole fraction of N2 = 78.0/100 = 0.780

Partial pressure of N2 = mole fraction of N2 × total pressure

= 0.780 × 796 mmHg

= 620.88 mmHg

= 621 mmHg. (Answer)

MODEL 3: PARTIAL PRESSURE Dry air is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% argon. A percentage is a ratio: "78%" means that out of 100 particles 78 will be nitrogen, or 0.78 as a fraction. Such fractions are unitless. CRITICAL THINKING QUESTIONS 15. Approximately what is the pressure in the room where you are working? (Include the units.) 16.
