Answer #1

Exponential smoothing with alpha = 0.4

A 1 Year Sales Forecast abs(error) MAPE 2007 2870 2870 2008 2880 2870 4 2009 3100 2874 226 7.290323 2010 3300 2964.4 335.6 10

MAPE for each year = [abs(error)/sales]*100

MAPE for total = average of MAPE for each year

For better comparison, error calculation has been done from period 3 which is to sync with 2 period moving average

2 period moving average

G H | К Sales Forecast abs(error) MAPE Year 2007 2870 2008 2880 2009 3100 2875 225 7.258065 2010 3300 2990 310 9.393939 133 3

We can see 2 period moving average yields better results as it has lower MAPE

    1. Exercise 5.1 The forecasting staff for the Prizer Corporation has developed a model to predict sales of its air-cushioned-ride snowmobiles. The model specifies that sales, S, vary jointly with disposable personal income, Y, and the population between ages 15 and 40,Z, and inversely with the price of the snowmobiles, P. Based on past data, the best estimate of this relationship is: where k has been estimated (from past data) to equal 100 If Y $13,000, Z- $1,200, and P...
