Provide 2-3 major considerations, principles, and/or techniques you will employ to properly delegate to an engineering team that you will manage. Please be sure to define the term "properly delegate." What does this mean to you? You must defend your definition of the term "properly." Delegation is defined as giving control or authority to another person to complete a task. It “involves empowering the project team to accomplish the project objective and empowering each team member to achieve the expected results for his or her area of responsibility.” It is essential for a project manager because he or she must understand that they cannot complete the end goal by themselves and it is a vital part of a PM’s responsibilities. The delegation also helps keep the project on schedule and provides development of new skills for those on the team.

Effective delegation empowers employees to take on more responsibility and gives them the authority to complete an assigned task. This is often an area of concern for managers because managers must balance the ultimate responsibility for completing a job correctly with the realistic need to delegate parts of that job to employees because the manager cannot do everything him- or herself.

Ultimately, managers are responsible for creating a work environment where employees can achieve their full potential within and contribute to the organization, while also learning and developing their skillsThe steps that are involved in the delegation process are; know what to delegate, know who to delegate to, provide documentation and clear instructions, track work and provide feedback, and lastly make it ongoing. It is essential when delegating work to staff to take a few extra steps that are not included in the process.

One step that is critical is to take into consideration the staff members strengths and weaknesses. Also, it is important to set a deadline to complete that task that is reasonable to get the work done. Also, ensuring that they know to ask questions if they don’t understand something. An effective delegation process can affect an organization by increasing productivity and improving employee morale.

4. Give the subordinate authority, time, and resources to perform the assignment.
