Steps for synthesis

1) In a fume hood, mix equal parts nitric and sulfuric acid cool while stirring and cool them.

2) Drop cotton(cellulose) balls into the acid.

3) Allow the reaction to proceed for about 15 minutes then dilute the mixture with cold water or ice.
4) Add sodium bicarbonate to the beaker till extra acid is neutralized.

Application

a) It act as a coating material in fast-drying automobile lacquers, to cover hardbound books.

b) Used in adhesives, foil coatings, artificial jewelery.

c) used in preparing guncotton which is used as a propellant in firearms, artillery, rockets, and fireworks, and blasting powder
