Based on what you have learned from this chapter and Chapter 9, name a diatomic molecule that has the strongest known chemical bond and one with the weakest known chemical bond.

The diatomic molecule with the strongest bond is CO. This molecule has a triple bond between C and O which is a very strong bond. The overlap between the orbitals for C and O make for a great amount of bonding interaction creating a very strong bond. The diatomic molecule with the weakest bond is F2. The electron repulsions between the two F atoms greatly diminishes the strength of the F-F bond.
