Question

You throw a bar magnet downward with its south end pointing down (see figure below). The bar magnet has a magnetic dipole moment of 1.6 A·m2. Lying on the table is a nearly flat circular coil of N= 1175 turns of wire, with radius R= 6 cm. The coil is connected to an oscilloscope, which has a very large resistance.

At the instant when the magnet is h= 30 cm above the table, the oscilloscope indicates a voltage of magnitude 6 mV.
What is the speed v of the magnet at that instant?

In the figure below a thin coil of radius r1= 4 cm, containing N1= 5300 turns, is connected through a resistor R = 100 Ω to an AC power supply running at a frequency f= 2100 so that the current through the resistor (and coil) is I1sin(2π×2100t). The voltage across the resistor triggers an oscilloscope that also displays this voltage, which is 10 V peak-to-peak and therefore has an amplitude of 5 V (and therefore the amplitude of the current...
