a) It is ionic compound (C6H5COO- Na+), the EN of the atoms make the ionic bonds.


b) Ionic compounds have bonds between ions. For a compound to dissolve in a solvent the solvent molecules should interact with the ionic compound. For this interaction to occur the solvent should be a polar solvent so that the ions interact with polar molecules. Gasoline is a non-polar solvent hence it can't dissolve ionic compounds.


c) When a ionic compound is dissolved in a solvent the compounds breaks into ions and creating free ions in the solution. These ions are the cause for the conduction of electricity. The compound like Hcl are polar compounds due to electronegativity differencee between hydrogen and chlorine creating partial charges. Thus conducting electricity.


d) The types of attractive forces that will occur between molecules in a sample of a molecular compound are London forces and dipole-dipole interactions (if the molecule is polar). These types of forces are substantially weaker than the ionic bonds that occur in an ionic compound. The stronger the forces or bonds between substances, the higher the melting point.

c).because they have charge on them so electrons can be easily transfered or even charge can be transfered which conduct electricity.

HCl breaks int H+ and cl- ions as this is ionic compound so it will conduct electricity due to presence of charged ions


d).as they have higher laatice energy and molecules are connected by ionic force which is much higher as compared to vanderwall force which acts in molecular compound for intermolecular attraction....but in ionic intermolecular attraction involves ionic force so they have higher melting point
