Answer #1

1) we can use fractionating column at the top of distillation flask. This gives wider and enormous surface area for vapours to condense efficiently.

2) No abrupt change in temperature should be brought. Uniform rate of heating and cooling should be maintained.

material balance 4 marks Question 2 Distillation columns are used to components, and make up over 95% industries. A commonly used distillation column is a propylene-propane splitter. The overhead product from this column is used as a feed stock for the production of polypropylene, which is the largest quantity of plastic produced worldwide. The figure below is a propylene-pro splitter (Cs refers to propane and C3 refers to propylene). The steam is used to provide energy and is not involved...

4.6. A distillation column is a process unit in which a feed mixture is separated by multiple partial vapor- izations and condensations to form two or more product streams. The overhead product stream is rich in the most volatile components of the feed mixture (the ones that vaporize most readily), and Equipment Encyclopedia distillation column the bottom product stream is rich in the least volatile components. The following flowchart shows a distillation column with two feed streams and three product...

A case study to consider most of the distillation unit (DU) product streams (5.0 marks) into more process down streams such as reformer, fluid catalytic cracking, delayed coker, and alkylation. The capacity of a DU is 100,000 barrels per stream day. The unit produces raw products, which have to be processed in the downstream unit to produce products of a certain specification. This involves the removal of undesirable components like sulfur, nitrogen, and metal compounds, and limiting the aromatic...
