Answer #1

Let E indicate the event that a student is taking English and C indicate the event that a student is taking chemistry.

Venn Diagram 14-5- 5 29-5 = 24 9 40 (9+5+24) =2

a) Number of students taking either Chemistry or English, (E U C) = 9 + 5 + 24

= 38

b) Number of students taking Chemistry and not taking English = C - (E cap C)

= 29 - 5

= 24

c) Number of students that are in neither Chemistry or English = 40 - (E U C)

= 40 - 38

= 2
