Q) How to conduct screening test to tuberculosis (TB) in hospitals?
There are two kinds of tests that are used to detect TB bacteria in the body:
Tuberculin Skin Test (TST)/ Mantoux test:
It can be conducted by health care provider using small needle by injecting a tuberculin into the skin of the lower part of arm.When injected a small pale bump will appear.
Positive result: It indicate that the person was infected with TB bacteria.Additional test are needed to determine if the person has latent TB infection.
Negative Result: It indicate that the person was not infected with TB bacteria.
TST can receive everyone like infants,Children,Pregnant
women,people living with HIV.
Blood test:
Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA):
It can measure that how person's immune system react with Tb bacteria by testing the person's blood. It can be carried out by collecting blood into special tubes using a needle.
Positive result: It indicate that the person was infected with TB bacteria.Additional test are needed to determine if the person has latent TB infection.
Negative Result:It indicate that the person was not infected with TB bacteria.
