A small charged ball lies within the hollow of a metallic sperical shell radius R. For three situations, the net charges on the ball and shell, respectively, are (1) +4q, 0 (2)-6q, +10q (3)+16q, -12q. Rank the situations according to their charge on (a) the inner surface of the shell and (b) the outer surface, most positive first

Answer #1
Gauss' Law

If the charged ball in the spherical shell has a charge, then thecharges on the shell would move to the inside of the shell just make the net charge inside the shell zero.
So for
a) charge would be -4
b)charge would be +6
c)charge would be -16

For net charge
The outer charge is the net charge subtracted by the charge in theinner shell. so
a)0+4 (note: sign change, 0 minus negative 4)
b)10-6
c)-12+16 (another sign change, -12 minus negative 16)

They are all the same
