Answer #1
Concepts and reason

The concept used to solve this problem is to draw the Fischer projection of glucose. Draw the straight chain and place the –OH group at appropriate positions using the configuration (D or L).

Fundamentals

The letters D and L are used for labelling the monosaccharide. D is dextrorotatory and L is levorotatory.

In the Fischer projection, if the –OH group on the bottom stereogenic center is placed on right side, then it is known as D-sugar.

Similarly, if the –OH group on the bottom stereogenic center is placed on left side, then it is known as L-sugar.

The Fischer projection is as follows:

d
CH2OH

The structure of glucose is as follows:

он
H-¢-OH
HO<p>H
H-¢-OH
| Hºc COH)
CH2OH

Ans:

The Fischer projection is as follows:

OH
H-¢-OH
HO —H.
H—¢—OH
H-¢-OH
CH2OH

Reactions of Monosaccharides Aldose monosaccharides can be oxidized when treated with a mild oxidizing agent. In this reaction, the aldehyde group of the open-chain aldose is oxidized to a carboxylic acid group In basic solution, ketose monosaccharides can also be oxidized. forming carboxylic acids because they can undergo a rearrangement to an aldose form. Monosaccharides (cyclic hemiacetals) can also react with an alcohol to form acetals, called glycosides, and water. In this reaction, the -OH of the anomeric carbon ic...
