Question

Exercises Present the results and solutions of the problems in a document, similar to that of the examples portion above. Copy and paste the plots, the function may be hand written but the rest should be word processed. You may print the plots, however, it is suggested that you copy and paste into your solution word document. To include MINITAB plots in MSword document: right click in the gray area of the figure window, select Copy Graph then paste into a MSword document along with your writeup. Once you have the figure irn the document you can resize it to fit your display preferences, see the examples portions for samples of display ideas. Do not copy and paste screen shots into your report Instead, copy and paste the actual MINITAB plots or appropriate portions of session window results into the report. You must provide a printout of the MINITAB version of the box plot, with the 5 number summary values, outliers and whisker ends labeled. MINITAB does not really label the plot so you may wish to label the box plot on your hardcopy of the document to be submitted or do so in msword. e Apollo space program lasted from 1967 until 1972 and included 13 missions. Lab 1 Descriptive Statistics and Plots 3) Complete histograms for problem 1-30 of your textbook in the following ways: a) Enter the data into MINITAB and use Graph- Histogram to create the MINITAB default histogram. Provide a printout of this. Identify the class interval, number of bins and discuss its shape. b) Change the number of bins for the MINITAB plot to 8. To do this right click within the histogram, select edit bars, select the binning tab, choose cutpoint and change the number of intervals. Provide a printout of the plot, indicate the class interval and write down the frequency distribution for the new histogram. Use the 2 to the k rule to determine the suggested number of classes and create your own frequency distribution using that number of classes. Plot your histogranm using MINITAB. In the MINITAB plot, right click within the histogram, select edit bars, cutpoint, select cutpoint/midpoint positions and enter your class endpoints, then press plot. Provide a printout of your histogram. c) d) Also create the box plot for the data set using MINITAB. Provide the plot. 4) Complete histograms for problem 1-20 of your textbook in the following ways: a) Enter the data into MINITAB and use Graph Histogram to create the MINITAB default histogram and a relative frequency histogram (select Scale- Y-Scale type and check the box for Percent.) Provide a printout of the plots. Identify the class interval, number of bins and discuss its shape. Use the 2 to the k rule to determine the appropriate number of classes (intervals, bins) and create your own frequency distribution using that number of classes, provide the associated frequency distribution. Plot your histogram using MINITAB. Provide a printout of your histogram. Discuss any differences in the two histograms. Determine the stem and leaf plot for the data. Determine the descriptive statistics and dot plot for the data. b) c) e) any observations including which plot seems to provide a better understanding of the data, that is, what the data is telling you.

Answer #1

1. (i)

Descriptive Statistics: Duration of flight

Variable Minimum Q1 Median Q3 Maximum
Duration of flight 7.0 76.0 195.0 252.0 301.0

(ii)

Boxplot of Duration of flight 300 250 E 200 c 150 100 ให้)

Since from box plot we observed that Third quartile-2nd quartile<2nd quartile-First quartile so the data is positively(right) skewed.

(iii)

Dotplot of Duration of flight 40 80 120 160 200 240 280 Duration of flight

From dot plot it is observed that 7,9,10 are outliers.

2. i.

Descriptive Statistics: The no. of minutes

Variable Minimum Q1 Median Q3 Maximum
The no. of minutes 10.00 15.75 23.50 29.25 44.00

ii.

Since from box plot we observed that Third quartile-2nd quartile<2nd quartile-First quartile so the data is positively(right) skewed.

iii.

Dotplot of The no. of minutes 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 The no. of minutes

rom dot plot it is observed that 44 is an outlier.

Unit 6 Lesson 3 Classwork (Adapted from Math Vision Project) Data Distribution A lot of information can be obtained from looking at data plots and their distributions. It is important when describing data that we use context to communicate the shape, center, and spread. Shape and spread: Modes: uniform (evenly spread- no obvious mode), unimodal (one main peak), bimodal (two main peaks), or multimodal (multiple locations where the data is relatively higher than others). Skewed distribution: when most data is...
