Question

A basketball starts from rest and accelerates with an a㏄eleration of 0.395 m/s2 while moving down a 9.00 m long inclined plane, when it reaches the bottom, the ball rolls up another plane, where, after moving 15.00 m, it comes to rest. (a) What is the speed of the bahe bottom of the first plane (in m/s)? (Round your answer to at least two decimal places.) m/s (b) How long does it take to roll down the first plane (in s)?

Answer #1

(a) v^2 = vo^2 + 2 *a * d

= 0 + 2 * 0.395 * 9

v = 2.67 m/s (it is the speed of the ball at the bottom of the first plane )

(b) v = vo + a * t

2.67 = 0 + 0.395 t ---> t = 6.75 s

    A rocket test sled accelerates at a constant rate of 15 m/s2 from rest while moving along a straight track. The rocket engine turns off instantly when the sled reaches a speed 30 m/s. The sled then moves freely (acceleration = 0) for a period of 5 s, after which the brakes are automatically applied giving a constant deceleration of -25 m/s2. What is the total time that the sled is moving?

    A ball starts at rest on the top of a ramp. This amp accelerates the ball at a rate of 1.5 m/s. The ball takes 3s to roll down the ramp and then hits a patch of rough flat ground. On the ground, the ball accelerates at a rate of -5m/s until it stops. How long after the ball reaches the ground does it take for the ball to stop?
