Proposed Plan for Pit Toilets.

1. Build and operate FOUR Pit Toilets - a set of two each (one for Girls and another for boys) and a Urinal Terminal for boys.

The proposal is to build a new E-toilet, as these are modern and use less water for the maintenance purpose. The proposal is to build two sets, each with two toilets for boys and girls. This is to support the strength of the 820 school children and staff, There is also a proposed open "urinal" for boys as this is low cost - low maintenance utility service for the boys.

There would be a overhead water tank with 1000 Ltrs capacity to ensure supply of water to the toilets.

Secondly, we propose a "under-ground water tank" for the rain-harvesting project to collect and store water. There would a mini- water treatment plant so that the water is treated to be re-used in the toilets. The size of the under ground tank of depend of the space available and the duration of dry period during the year. The minimum capacity proposed would be a capacity of 30 days of the water requirements of the school toilets.

Third, proposed "pipe-line" that would connect the river to the underground water tank. The supplies would be through-out the year and during the fry season, the stored water could be used for the maintenance of the toilets.

Forth, plant trees around the school to ensure high "ground-level" of water. The roots of tree are able to hold ground water and maintain a high level of ground water.

The above proposal would also help in the establishment of the RCM process. An E-toilet would require a minimum level of maintenance, are safe to use and operate, low cost - low operating cost, eco-friendly toilets, low risk-levels and complete safety for students and finally environment friendly.

The open "urinal" for boys would also be a added advantage as it would use very less water and would be easy to use for the students and male teaching staff.

The cost implication would be low as the cost absorbing activities would be

  • building the toilets and urinals.
  • over head tanks
  • pipe-line from the river.
  • Under-ground storage tank.
  • Mini water treatment plant.
