Answer #2
C8H8O3 + NaOH (aq) ----> C7H5NaO3 + HOMe and in acidic 2 C7H5NaO3 + H2SO4 (aq) ---> 2 C7H6O3 + Na2SO4 (aq) To make sodium salicylate, dissolve sodium hydroxide and salicylic acid separately in distilled water, then mix the two solutions. Let the mixture stand for an hour, according to CR Scientific. Heat the liquid until it thickens, turns pale yellow and crystallizes; when only dry crystals remain, that is sodium salicylate. This should only be done by a chemist.
