Question 3 solved

As part of the underwriting process for insurance, each prospective policyholder is tested for high cholesterol. Let Y represent the number of tests completed when the first person with cholesterol is found. The expected values of Y is 3.5. Calculate the probability that the 10th person tested is the third one with high cholesterol

E(X) = 3.5

P(Person has high blood pressure) = 1/E(X) = 1/3.5 = 0.2857

P(10th person has high blood pressure)
=P(first 9 do not have high BP) *P(tenth has high blood pressure)
= (1- 0.2857)^9 (0.2857)
= 0.0138
