INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM:
Integumentary system is a system in a body which consists of skin, nails and exocrine glands.
SKIN:
Skin is the organ of the integumentary system. It is the largest organ of the body.
Skin consists of mainly 3 layers:
EPIDERMIS: It is the outer layer of the skin in which the skin colour is determined by special cell called melanocytes.
DERMIS: Under epidermis it is called dermis. It contain hair follicle, connective tissue and sweat gland.
HYPODERMIS: It is of subcutaneous tissue fat and connective tissue.
PRIMARY FUNCTION OF SKIN:
Skin has three primary function.
1. Protection.
2. Regulation.
3. Sensation.
PROTECTION:
Skin acts as barrier and protects from temperature, pressure, radiation, sun burn, chemicals, micro organism and mechanical impacts.
REGULATION:
It regulates the most physiological function of the body includes body temperature.
Skin has major function in maintaining body temperature by sweat and fluid balance and by changing the peripheral circulation.
The reservoir of vitamin D is skin.
SENSATION:
skin have a nerve cell that detect the changes in environment. Skin carries the sensation via
Select an organ/structure of the Integumentary System and describe its primary function.
Briefly describe the structure and functions of the integumentary system (in 60-80 words).
Describe the physiology of the primary organ system that the obstructive sleep apnea impacts under healthy conditions. Next, list the secondary organ system it affects and list why.
Homeostasis is a major, choose on of the organ system and describe how homeostasis is demonstrated in that system. Describe any cells, receptors, organ structure, or hormones you can think of that may be involved?
Describe the structure of an antibody molecule. MUST refer to four specific features of its primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structure and how they are important for its function.
choose a medical procedure that involves the Integumentary system, Digestive system, and Urinary system. Describe the procedure and define the terminology used in that procedure. (3 procedures, one for each system)
Describe the integumentary system of an armidillo lizard, green honey creeper, and a cotingas
Q4 Briefly describe how the urinary system, respiratory system, digestive system and integumentary system contribute to excretion of waste products from the human body (in 60-80 words). Q5 Briefly describe the interaction of the reproductive and endocrine systems (in 60-80 words).
