We use the expression of electric field ar a point due to a point charge and principle of superposition to find the net electric field at the origin.. q1 and q2 produced equal strength field in the opposite directions. Hence their fields add up to zero

The field due to a positive point charge points away from the charge whereas the field due to negative point charge points towards the charge.
