Imagine that you are part of the marketing management team at Home Plus, a regional discount big-box retailer who competes with Wal-Mart and Target. Home Plus currently focuses on offering a broad range of discount consumer goods, from small home furnishings and clothing to packaged goods and kitchenware. In addition to the discount lines, Home Plus carries some higher end clothes, shoes, and bedding. Some members of management believe that the best way to improve the company's competitive positioning is to concentrate more of its energies on the higher-end product lines. They have proposed that Home Plus double the number of luxury products it carries and halve the number of discount consumer packaged goods.

In an essay, explain why you would agree or disagree with the proposed change in marketing strategy. Be sure to discuss both the proposal's advantages and its disadvantages.

To ensure immediate feedback, please submit a response between 100 and 1000 words. Essay length alone will not necessarily result in a high or low score.

answer-

I would oppose the marketing strategy of doubling the higher end product lines and halving the number of discount consumer packaged goods. the reason for me is that the main competitive advantage of this store is that it is discounted store means it provide consumer goods that are at low price or discounted price which attracts the customer's attention. if they would half the number of their discounted products then it may cause lose of customers because many of its customers shop here because of its discounted products otherwise they would have gone to Target or Walmart which already known for low cost products.

the advantage of doubling the high end product would be increase in profit because high end products have high prices and sell of such product means high profit.

the advantage of halve the discount consumer packaged goods means you can cut down your marketing and promotional cost of like coupons.

the disadvantages of doubling high end product would be investment is higher because higher end products need too much investments. another con of this is that customers may think many times before any purchase or they may not purchase which means they could lose customers to competitors. another con of this is that high end products need more attention and safety of them which can increase holding cost of company.

the disadvantage of halve the discount consumer packaged goods means customers who likes to purchase discounted products would have limited choices and business could lose them.

so, for me, business can focus on cut down its business cost and invest in discount products rather than higher end products.

*hope above answer would help you.
