A) Given data

Lower outlier decreases the mean

Total number of observations =18=n

Now calculate the mean value including outlier(14)

Mean =sum of the data/n

(50+51+69+57+88+88+77+82+98+66+70+65+53+62+14+72+64+68) /18

Mean =1194/66.33

Now calculate the mean value excluding outlier (14)

Mean =(1194-14)/17

=1180/17=69.41

The outlier is 1. The outlier in the data set causes the mean to decrease from 69.41 to about 66.33.
