As a result of the reapportionment after the 2000 census, Montana, Wyoming, and Rhode Island each retained the same number of seats, namely 1, 1, and 2, respectively. California gained a seat, for a total of 53 seats. See the table in problem 42 for the year 2000 apportionment population totals.
