Debt per Capita The debt per capita measures the average amount of money owed by one person in the United States. Figure 1 shows the graph of the debt per capita in thousands of dollars for the years 1950 to 2004. Use the graph to answer the following questions.
(a) Approximate the debt per capita in 1950, 1990, 2000, and 2004.
(b) Trace the graph onto another sheet of paper and draw the tangent line at the point corresponding to the year 2000. Use the tangent line to approximate the annual rate of increase of the debt per capita in 2000.
