In what important way did Terman modify the Binet–Simon scale?

Step-by-Step Solution

Solution 1

Lewis Madison Terman observed children over a long time and came to the conclusion that those children, who had higher Intelligence Quotient (IQ), became more successful in life than those who had low IQ. Terman defined those children having an IQ of more than 135 to be geniuses.

In the year 1916, Lewis Terman modified the Binet-Simon scale of intelligence and it came to be known as the Stanford-Binet scale of intelligence. The term IQ or intelligence quotient came to be used popularly during this time.

Terman interpreted the results of the Binet-Simon tests as the connecting link between hereditary factors and the intelligence of an individual.

Terman also used the result of the tests to recruit soldiers in the army during the First World War. He used the results to sort the new recruits into different ranks in the Army. Terman used to compare the scores of the IQ tests (Stanford-Binet scale) of those, who were taking them and used to determine the intellectual level of individuals based on the comparison.
