Traumatic brain injuries are the sudden lethal injuries to the brain that occur when the brain hits a hard object.
The physiological changes resulting from the injury depends upon the type and severity of the injury. The person can recover to a certain degree indicating the ability of brain to recover from injuries, but the person may not be fully normal and may be in a “minimally conscious state (MCS).”
People with extensive brain injuries may not recover and may remain in a “persistent vegetative state (PVS)” during which no communication or independent functioning are observed.
Thus, the blanks can be filled with traumatic brain injury; minimally conscious state; persistent vegetative state.
