Solutions For An Introduction to Brain and Behavior Chapter 12 Problem 4R1

Step-by-Step Solution

Solution 1

Free will is inadequate to explain the things we do because the behaviour is regulated by neural circuits. The neural circuits are strongly associated with and are modulated by the chemoreceptors (senses of smell and taste).

The sense of smell, taste, emotion and memory are strongly associated because the limbic system is associated with both the memory and emotions.

Also the sensory information of olfaction is processed in the limbic system because the olfactory bulb is present within the limbic system. The olfactory information is processed in the cortex only after passing through these limbic structures, which is responsible for the “odor-memory-emotion” responses.
