In each of Exercises the 1970-2000 population census data for a U.S. city is given.
a. Use a scatter plot of the data to determine whether an exponential model, P(t) = a • ert, or a logarithmic model, P(t) = a + b ln t, is more suited to the data. Then find the optimal function model of the appropriate type; reset the clock so that t = 0 in 1960.
b. Find the average error for your model.
c. Use your model to predict the city’s population in 2010.
