A rectangular cross section (60.0 mm × 90.00 mm) column of 2024-T4 aluminum alloy is 1.00 m long. The top end of the column is pinned. The effect of the knife-edge support is to provide a clamped condition for deflection in the 90.0-mm direction and a pinned condition in the direction of the 60.0-mm dimension.
