The piston head shown in Figure P11–26 is made of aluminum alloy A356.0-T6, sand cast. The modulus of elasticity is 10.5 × 10⁶ psi. The Poisson’s ratio is 0.33. The yield strength is 15,200 psi. The pressure on the head is 185 psi. Determine if the piston head is safe based on a factor of safety of 2.5 against yielding.
