(a) Find the force F necessary to move the top of the shaking table shown in Fig. 1 a distance of 1.75 in. to one side of the midposition. Tangents to the springs at the top and bottom remain vertical at all times. Find the value of the bending stress in the springs.
(b) Repeat part (a) except that the right spring is now 5/16 in. thick. The left spring remains 1/4 in. thick.
