You can separate white light into a full spectrum of colors using a triangular prism. Upon entering the prism, each color that makes up white light is bent or refracted by an angle θr. The angle of refraction depends on the angle of incidence θi which is the angle at which light enters the prism measured from a perpendicular line drawn from the side of the prism. (See the following figure.) The angle of emergence θe, is measured from a perpendicular line drawn at the point where the light ray exits the prism. The angles of refraction and emergence for three spectrum colors are given in the following table, assuming an angle of incidence of 70° and a prism made of diamond. Use a straightedge and a protractor to construct a large diagram similar to the one given. Your diagram will show the prism with a 45° angle, the path of white light as it enters the prism, three refracted rays, and three emergent rays. Add color to your final diagram.
