Rework Problem 1 changing the fasteners to six .-diameter A490-X high-strength bolts.
Problem 1
A roof truss tension member is made up of (total Ag = 9.50 in.2) of A36 steel as shown. The bolts are .-diameter. A325-N high-strength bolts in standard holes. Compute the tensile capacity P for the connection shown. The special note for angle tension connections of Problem 2 applies.
Problem 2
Design an end connection using longitudinal welds and an end transverse weld to develop the full tensile capacity of the angle shown. Use A36 steel and E70 electrodes. Note: A reduction coefficient for the computation of the net area for a tension member that does not have all its cross-sectional elements connected to the supporting member is commonly used. This factor is neglected in this text.
