Elongation of Venus The elongation of the planet Venus is defined to be the angle θ determined by the sun, Earth, and Venus, as shown in the figure on the next page. Maximum elongation of Venus occurs when Earth is at its minimum distance De from the sun and Venus is at its maximum distance Dv from the sun. If De = 91,500,000 mi and Dv = 68,000,000 mi, approximate the maximum elongation θmax of Venus. Assume that the orbit of Venus is circular.
