PLURALITY METHOD
If two candidates are running for election, one candidate usually receives more than half of the votes, a majority, and this candidate is declared the winner. However, if three or more candidates are competing in an election, it often happens that no one candidate receives more than 50% of the votes. When no candidate receives a majority of the votes, there must be some other way of deciding the election. The plurality method is one way of settling who wins in such an election. If the plurality method is used, voters simply vote for their preferred choice, and the candidate receiving the greatest number of votes, called a plurality, is selected.
The plurality method offers several advantages., It requires a simple choice by the voter: vote for your favorite. Voters need not rank the candidates in any kind of order. A second advantage is the ease of determining the winner of the election after the votes are cast.
