ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE: Photovoltaics Photovoltaics is the generation of electricity from sunlight. Total U.S. grid-tied photovoltaic installations in recent years, in megawatts (MW), are given in the following table. (One megawatt would power about 1000 average homes.)
