The volume, height, and diameter at 4.5 ft above ground level were measured for a sample of 31 black cherry trees in the Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania. The data were collected to provide a basis for determining an easy way of estimating the volume of a tree. Develop a model relating volume to height and diameter. The columns of the data matrix are diameter, height, and volume, in that order (Ryan, Joiner, & Ryan 1976). The data are contained in the file treevolume.
