Problem

compute the maximum shearing stress using the general shear formula or one of the special shear formulas. Then compare the result with the design shear stress to determine if the shearing stress is safe. The shape shown in Figure P8-78 carries a vertical shearing force of 1800 lb. The materials are ASTMA992 structural steel for the W-beam and A500 grade B for the HSS sections.
