The I-beam in Fig. 1 is 300 mm deep with a flange 162 mm wide and of a uniform thickness of 9 mm. The beam is welded to immovable supports by butt welds. Assume the bending moment is carried by the flange welds, and the shear forces are carried by the web welds. Flange welds are of the same size as the flange of the beam. Find the value of force P for a bending stress of 80 MPa in the flange welds.
